Mass Storage Device Replacemnet
To replace a mass storage device, shut down the system, remove power, remove the system cover, and refer to the appropriate section below.
Front-Accessible Drives
Front-Bay Drives With Fan Module
Internal Drives
To replace a Front-Accessible Drive, perform the following procedures.
- Remove the Front Bezel.
- Disconnect the power and data cables from the drive.
- Remove the two mounting screws (4).
- Slide the drive (1) out of the bay.
Note: The following procedures differ depending upon the physical size of the drive you are replacing:
- If you are replacing a 5.25-inch device, refer to the figure again and take off the side rail (3) by removing the two screws (2) and reinstall it on the replacement drive.
- If you are replacing a 3.5-inch drive, the side rail is attached to expansion brackets which must also be removed and reinstalled on the replacement drive.
- Refer to the drive's documentation and set the drive jumpers/switches (drive 0 or drive 1 for IDE drives, SCSI ID for SCSI drives).
- Reverse the steps above to complete the drive replacement.
To replace a Front-Bay Drive With Twin Fan Module in front of it, perform the following procedures.
- Remove the Front Bezel.
- Remove the 1.44 MB Diskette Drive.
- Disconnect the power and data cables from the fan and the drive.
- Slide the fan unit straight out the front of the enclosure.
- Remove the two mounting screws from the side of the drive.
- Slide the drive out of the bay.
- Check to see if the replacement drive has a side rail pre-attached. If it does not, remove the side rail from the drive you are replacing, and install it on the replacement drive as you would on any 5.25-inch device.
Note: The illustration shows how the side rail and expansion brackets are attached in case you need to remove or replace either or both of them.
- Refer to the drive's documentation and set the drive jumpers/switches (drive 0 or drive 1 for IDE drives, SCSI ID for SCSI drives).
- Reverse the steps above to complete the drive replacement. Note that the power cable to the fan module must run on top of the drive and fan module.
To replace an Internal Drive, perform the following procedures.
- Remove the two screws (2) from the internal bay cage (1).
- Swing the cage outward, lift it up to disengage the rear flanges, and swing it out of the chassis. Take care not to damage the attached cables.
- Disconnect the power and data cables from the drive.
- Remove the four mounting screws (1).
- Slide the drive (2) out of the bay cage (3).
- Refer to the drive's documentation and set the drive jumpers/switches
(drive 0 or drive 1 for IDE drives, SCSI ID for SCSI drives).
- Reverse the steps above to complete the drive replacement.
